The Utah Fits All Scholarship is expanding slightly.
House Bill 529 from Representative Candice Pierucci makes two modest but important expansions of eligibility. It also clarifies language in the scholarship making it easier to use for parents.
First, military families both those from Utah who maintain a home in the state, and those who are assigned to serve in Utah will now have access to the scholarship.
Second, foster families who are seeking to adopt their foster child will also be able to use this scholarship. This is an important expansion. Often foster families, especially those who choose alternative forms of education, are not allowed to educate their foster children in the same manner as the rest of the family. Expanding this eligibility to those families who are seeking to make a foster child a permanent member of their family makes sense.
Finally, this bill makes some clarifying language, expanding the methods that families can verify their income to the program manager, along with other minor clarifications.
