Libertas Institute opposes this bill

Staff review of the legislation finds that it violates our principles and must therefore be opposed.

Senate Bill 53, sponsored by Sen. Kwan, requires ride-share drivers to get their vehicle inspected, even if it doesn’t need it according to current law.

Libertas opposes this bill. Data in Utah and across the nation shows that annual safety inspections do nothing to increase the safety of newer vehicles. Ride-share platforms already have vehicle requirements for any potential drivers.
