Internships

Libertas Institute offers research internships for college students or recent graduates during fall, winter, and summer terms. Join our successful organization to help advance the cause of liberty in Utah!

Job responsibilities

  • Research assigned policies spanning a broad spectrum of subjects
  • Compile, sort, and analyze data
  • Prepare reports and summarize data
  • Write articles on assigned topics
  • Attend meetings to observe and take notes

Qualifications

  • Must be interested in and familiar with the political process
  • Able to commit to a consistent schedule
  • Very high attention to detail
  • Excellent research and writing skills

Compensation

We offer a limited amount of paid internships each term. Full-time participants receive $1,600 a month and part-time participants (20 hours a week) receive $800 a month. Unpaid part-time internships are generally always available for college credit or experience as well. Any necessary expenditures related to assigned work will be reimbursed.

You also have the option of interning with us while enrolled in the Koch Internship Program (KIP) which would allow you to receive a stipend of $5,500.

Schedule

In-person interns serving during the winter term (January through April) may have the opportunity to assist us at the Capitol each day during the 45-day legislative session. If that is the case, then before and after the session, they will work from our office. During the summer or the fall semester, interns work out of our Lehi office.

Interns working through the Koch program are full-time and work according to the schedule that the Koch Institute establishes for their selected internship.

Fellowships

Libertas Institute offers revolving research fellowships for graduate students or those early in their career for a flexible period of 6-12 months, either part- or full-time. The program is targeted toward students with an interest in public policy, research, advocacy, and strategic communications. Policy research, data analysis, and written work for the core of the fellowship experience. 

Libertas Research Fellows have the opportunity to work as research assistants and coauthors with Libertas policy analysts in the following policy areas: free enterprise, innovation, regulation, technology, privacy, criminal justice, education, property rights, and individual liberty. All fellows are required to participate in relevant trainings that are put on internally as well as external opportunities identified by Libertas staff. 

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum one year experience in policy research or related work, such as practicing/studying law in the policy area. (Internships may be considered experience.)
  • Excellent research, oral and written skills
  • An entrepreneurial, collaborative mindset
  • Able to commit to a consistent schedule
  • Very high attention to detail

Fellows are provided a monthly stipend, contingent upon the type (part- or full-time) and duration of the fellowship.
