When filling out the mandatory driver’s license application, there are multiple health conditions listed which you must mark “yes” or “no,” based on whether the condition applies to you. According to state law, anyone that checks yes will need to visit with their physician to make sure their condition allows them to safely operate a vehicle.

Unfortunately, this lengthy and expensive process has proven to be absolutely unnecessary for some of the conditions listed. Doctors are frequently confused by the state-mandated forms they must fill out and processes they must go through. This results in different evaluation results depending on what doctor you go to.

To help doctors work through this process with understanding and ease, House Bill 184 has been introduced by Representative Ray Ward. It also removes some of the medical condition disclosures that must currently be revealed, as they are less important (or not at all important) for driver safety. This is to simplify the process for many individuals who are safe to drive, who might currently be excluded, or at a minimum burdened, in obtaining a license.
