Over 500 Utahns ask Governor Herbert to call a special session to nullify Obamacare

Rapidly growing list of Utahns want to see Herbert be a leader on this issue.

Salt Lake City, UT, July 10, 2012 — In one 24-hour period, Libertas Institute has collected petitions from over 500 Utahns requesting that Governor Herbert call the legislature into a special session to take on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.

In light of the Supreme Court’s opinion upholding the constitutionality of this mandate, Libertas Institute argues that states should look to nullify the law and refuse to cooperate.

Nullification is, in the words of Tom Woods, New York Times best-selling author of multiple books including Nullification, “the idea that the states can and must refuse to enforce unconstitutional federal laws.” It has been used throughout America’s history with varying levels of success, and is actively being used by many states around the Union regarding medicinal marijuana, REAL ID, No Child Left Behind, and other federal encroachments.

When somebody signs the petition, an email is sent directly to the Governor with the petition’s message, customized by the signer. Libertas Institute has plans for an ongoing marketing campaign in the days and weeks ahead to encourage Utahns to continue to demand action on the part of Governor Herbert.
