Why Gig Workers Use Platforms: 60-Second Stories

Some compare app-based gig workers to entrepreneurs, a cherished class of workers responsible for creating jobs and value in the economy. But while gig workers may embody the creative, action-oriented business mindset of entrepreneurs, they’re still one-person teams dependent on app-based platforms to connect with clients. In this 60-Second Story, I answer the question of an anonymous gig worker on Reddit who asks, “Why not cut out the middleman?” 

We hope it better conveys the reasons we are so passionate about our Future of Work policy. The issues might not be simple, but solutions are necessary and will benefit so many who are working hard in the gig economy.
