As environmental issues become more challenging, the time we are afforded to clutch our pearls over regulatory control is quickly coming to an end. What’s needed now, more than another overly-cautious government regulation, is a sandbox for innovators – working proactively with regulators to solve this enormous challenge.
Utah recognizes the potential of psilocybin and MDMA by passing this legislation. This comes after the hard work of a psychotherapy and mental illness taskforce which ultimately concluded the psilocybin is both safe and effective.
Utah’s universal sandbox is continually pushing the boundaries of what a state can achieve with proactive regulatory programs. What’s next under this newly minted component of the sandbox will be sure to surprise and inspire other states to follow suit in the coming years.
Fortunately, this year Utah’s legislature passed SB 106, sponsored by Senator Curt Bramble, to amend the law and take cold plunges out of the public pool regulatory requirements.
Senate Bill 44 from Senator Fillmore combines the Carson Smith and Special Needs Opportunity Scholarships into one program, eliminating the bureaucracy and thus making access to the program easier for families.
