Sponsored Ranked Bills
This legislator was the sponsor of the following bills, which were ranked by Libertas Institute in their respective year's Legislator Index.
- SB102: Bigamy Amendments (2020)
This bill decriminalized consensual polygamy from a felony to an infraction.
The bill passed the Senate unanimously and the House 70-3. Libertas supports a "yea" vote. - SB167: Food Truck Regulation Amendments (2018)
This bill adds additional restriction to last year's Food Truck Freedom law, streamlining regulations and protecting property rights to ensure mobile food operators can more easily engage in commerce without undue interference from city bureaucrats.
This bill passed the Senate unanimously and passed the House 67-1. Libertas supports a "yea" vote. - SB250: Food Truck Licensing and Regulation (2017)
This bill streamlined and removed regulations placed on food truck owners in Utah.
This bill passed the Senate 23-1 and passed the House 73-0. Libertas supports a "yea" vote, because as outlined in our policy brief last year, food truck owners faced substantial regulation that severely restricted their ability to succeed. These reforms are a huge step in a positive direction for this industry. - SB108: Removing protectionist barriers for birthing centers (2016)
Prior to this bill, birthing centers in Utah were unable to expand operations without the agreement of hospitals with whom they compete. This bill removed those protectionist barriers so that these businesses can expand.
This bill passed in the Senate 24-2 and passed the House 62-4. Libertas Institute supports a "yea" vote, as a business owner should not need the consent of his or her competitor to grow the business. - SB185: Law Enforcement Transparency (2014)
This bill collects annual information from law enforcement agencies regarding SWAT deployments as well as forcible entries (e.g. home raids). 16 separate points of data will be collected regarding each incident, and the data will be summarized and published openly for policy makers and the public to review.
Libertas Institute supports this bill. Government transparency is important on issues affecting life, liberty, and property—and because law enforcement officers can and do use lethal force, it's imperative to have transparent access to data so that legislators and the public at large can be assured that this authority is being properly used.
This bill passed the Senate 22-2 and passed the House unanimously. Libertas supports a "yea" vote.
