When it comes to statutory restrictions that use age-verification mechanisms, legislators should slow down. It’s impossible to contain a breach once it occurs, and that’s enough reason to get these bills right the first time with as much input as possible.
AI will continue to take on more complex tasks. The developers of AI will fix its current flaws. Therefore, knowing how to use AI effectively will be a powerful skill. Using it ethically will be powerful for humanity.
One thing is clear: Utah’s legal innovation has opened a door for more robust conversations and opportunities in the gig economy — a door kept shut for far too long.
If the warning signs are true, and social media is creating all the harm talked about in the news, we can’t simply ban the problems away.
Given the federal government’s abysmal track record when it comes to scheduling drugs in a timely manner that comports with current science, states shouldn’t wait. It’s time they step up and do the right thing for individuals suffering from mental illness.
Certainly, police agencies should watch themselves and each other. But ultimately if the people themselves cannot access the information needed to watch these watchers, there cannot be true police accountability.
