Education Empowerment

At the end of April, I spent two days in Atlanta attending the Hybrid Schools Conference. Here are three things I learned.
We all want our children to achieve greatness, and they can. But not if we compare them to others. Arbitrary standards measured by a high-stakes test undermine the greatness they can achieve.
If local school districts already have the authority to give teachers a raise, why haven’t they already done so?
If our parental rights do not come from the government, where do they come from? The answer to this question will frame every controversy and debate happening in public schools.
A recent survey conducted by Populace showed that parents ranked college preparation number forty-seven out of fifty-seven priorities for their children’s K-12 education.
Honoring parental rights is a noble cause, but opening the door for the federal government to have more control will have unintended consequences as political winds change. Never give the government a power you wouldn’t want used against you.
