expungement

This bill would help thousands of people by automatically expunging records of those with a past low-level criminal history.
Providing automatic expungements for people with low level criminal history will affect thousands of Utahn’s lives for generations to come.
Expungements are expensive to obtain and may take up to six months to be approved. But without them, former criminals have a difficult time moving on from their past.
A new law makes it easier for low-income Utahns in debt to the state to expunge their past crimes.
This bill relaxes current statute to make it somewhat easier to become eligible for expungement, not only for prior offenses, but for a prior arrest that does not result in prosecution.
