Limited and Open Government

In addition to the federal, state, and county elections that took place last November, many voters in Utah voted on various ballot propositions. Spoiler alert — most taxes are increasing.
It is clear that the deregulation of laws dictating who can gain employment in various jobs is needed to combat labor shortages. The best place to start this deregulation should come from a reexamination of licensing laws.
A conviction in one’s past should not be a nearly insurmountable roadblock to a prosperous future.
While pay raises may provide a short-term solution, it may not address the root cause of the problem.
Occupational licensing has become a major barrier to entry for many workers in the United States, preventing them from using their skills and experience to make a living. Thankfully, some states are taking steps to address this issue.
