Senate Bill 44 from Senator Fillmore combines the Carson Smith and Special Needs Opportunity Scholarships into one program, eliminating the bureaucracy and thus making access to the program easier for families. 
This expansion is exciting, and we are looking forward to how the legislature further expands the scholarship in the future. 
The education world has changed in the past few years. It is time that new models of learning are recognized and allowed into our communities.
Utah is often ridiculed by media and public school proponents for having the least amount of money spent per student on education. They aren’t wrong, but they also aren’t telling the whole story.
This bill provides a method for homeschool families to easily transfer back into a public school if they choose.
Rather than lower expectations, children can succeed if we move expectations to fit their learning style. For example, there's more than one way to teach a visual learner how to do complex math. We simply need to meet them where they're at.
